Incorporating Oils into Your Practice

Uncategorized

I have been practicing yoga for almost two decades. Using essential oils to enhance my practice is so routine, I almost don't think about it. I use them in my own personal sadhana and also in every class I teach.

Essential oils can help set your mood and sharpen your focus, open you up for more expansive pranayama, and tap into emotional responses you are striving for.

I love learning the physical attributes of an essential oil, and yet my passion is matching essential...

What are Essential Oils

Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. if you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils

Essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile organic compounds. although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils.

History of Oils

Essential oils have been used throughout recorded history for a wide variety of wellness applications. The Egyptians were some of the first people to use aromatic essential oils extensively in medical practice, beauty treatment, food preparation, and in religious ceremony.

Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh and cinnamon were considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and were sometimes exchanged for gold.

Borrowing from the Egyptians, the greeks used essential oils in their...

Divinity is an Inside Job

I have been known in my family to be the one who always took the HARDEST WAY possible to get what I wanted. It was oftentimes at the expense of my dignity, safety, heart, and more. Taking the long way around caused me so much pain. (I almost wrote unnecessary there, but really---that is a detail that is so significant to me now.)

And the truth is, I wouldn't change a thing about my life or the choices I have made or the situations that happened around me. At the time of some pretty...

Lunar Cycles + Kundalini Yoga

Uncategorized
Moon phases are so important to staying aligned with our own cycles and the cycles of the universe. Being in sync with the moon cycles can support us in our goals, mindset, and health. In Kundalini yoga, the moon phases have vast significance.
Your biofeedback moves from New Moon to Full Moon, and Full Moon to New Moon. There are three days of the Moon.  If you fast at these times you can bring your mind and health into balance.

Pillars to Practice: What to Expect

A Kundalini yoga class is a unique experience in almost every class. sometimes a class will be more physically vigorous, while others might be more serene and meditative.

There are two types of new Kundalini yoga students. Most beginners are students who have taken a more typical yoga class (think Hatha or Vinyasa) or someone who has never taken a yoga class in their life.

I often tell students new to Kundalini to mentally collect all their expectations of a more "regular" yoga...

Mudras: Hand Positions

Mudra is the hand position while practicing or during meditation. Different mudras lead the flow of energy along specific pathways with an emphasis on certain areas of the body and brain, depending on the type of mudra.

Each area of the hand is linked to an area on the physical body or emotional center, and each mudra creates energy flow or stimulates the area or quality which is directed by controlled pressing of nerve points in the hand.

Mudras start electromagnetic...
